Our challenge was to create a tetrahedron using elastic bands and wooden rods.
Firstly, we had to each create our own tetrahedron, which was quite tricky and we realised that we needed to help each other.
Secondly, we had to work as part of a small group to create a small pyramid using four tetrahedrons. It took us all about 10 minutes to solve this problem but we worked together as a team to figure out how to make the large tetrahedron.
Thirdly, we had to work with an even bigger group of people to join four of these larger pyramids to make an even bigger tetrahedron.
Eventually, we made a huge tetrahedron that could fit a maths group inside!!
We enjoyed the activity and learnt:
- what a tetrahedron is
- to work together to achieve something
- how to build a pyramid using just elastic bands and wooden rods
