As part of our theme, we have been looking at celebrations such as birthdays and parties. We have all enjoyed learning about the celebration of Diwali. We have learned about Rama and Sita, and why Hindu's light candles and share sweets during this 'Festival of Light'. We held our own celebration at school, and the children had a wonderful time making and sharing their own sweets, as well as wearing colourful clothing. Many parents sent in a selection of tea lights, and we made the hall look fantastic when they were all lit. A big thank you to all the parents who made this possible :)
A big thank you to all the lovely adult helpers who came with us to Techniquest. The children all had a fantastic time exploring the exhibitions and interacting with the displays. They all learned a lot from the experience, and are really keen to go back again soon :)
What a fantastic start to our year :)
The children have all had a great time looking for and at things that glow and glitter. We went on a glitter hunt on a lovely sunny day, and found that some things shone from the reflection of the sun, and that others glowed from an additional energy source.
The girls all seemed to love the sequinned shoes and bags that glittered, while the boys loved the silver and gold sword that caught the light.
We had a visit from P.C Warlow, who taught us when it would be appropriate to dial 999, as well as looking at different emergency situations.
In the classroom we have been investigating seasons, as well as shapes and their properties, and have been writing using a variety of mark making tools. The children are also getting back into the routine of Big Maths and RWI, and loved our open day when their Mums, Dads and Nans could come in and watch them work. Thank you all for your support :)
