We made sandcastles using both wet and dry sand, and found that wet sand definitely made better sandcastles. We worked as a team to create a large sandcastle village with a moat and bridge. We used our foil wrappers from lunch to make a flag to fly, collected pebbles to add more detail to our creation, and finished it off by collecting buckets of water from the sea in order to fill it.
We took off our socks and shoes to experience the feel of ridges left in the sand by the waves, and talked about the different feelings of the cold wet sand and the warm dry sand. We all enjoyed walking into the water up to ankle height to feel how cold the waves were!
We used the wet sand to write lots of words and draw pictures in, and we made giant shadows with help from the sun.
After lunch we walked to the park and had fun playing on the pirate ship, as well as cooling down on the grass. There were definitely a few sleepy heads on the bus coming home :)
