Welcome to our Year 6 blog, where I will be updating you with information and the children will be learning to blog about what they have been learning.
Our topic this term is 'Scream Machine,' and the children will be provided with lots of exciting opportunities in Science, ICT and DT, in order to fulfil their challenge of designing a brand new, innovative fairground ride!
If your child has any construction toys or toys with moving parts (eg those with wind up mechanisms, gears, levers moving arms and legs or train sets) please could they bring them in to school to aid us in investigating what forces make things move. Also, if any parents or relatives have any expertise in this area we would love to welcome you into the class to share this!
Maths is going to be a big focus this year and the children are taking part in fun, 'Big Maths' challenges each week. I will be explaining more about these in my 'Meet the teacher' session on Friday at 3.00. Your child will be bringing home work at their level to practise and a range of strategies to enable them to improve. In our first 'Beat that' test, last Friday, the highest score was 33. I will be giving a prize to the first child to score 40 so please encourage them to get practising their facts!
Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday and please ensure your child has a full PE kit suitable for indoor and outdoor sessions. Please continue to read regularly with your child with a particular emphasis on comprehension (talking/questioning about the characters, events and themes in a book).
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Friday and working together to help your children reach their full potential this year.
Many thanks for your continued support,
